Chicago is a fascinating city with a rich history. As new teachers, we decided to integrate our love for our city, creativity, and language arts to produce a series of lesson plans and a three-week unit to explore Chicago. We will introduce Chicago newspapers, traditional poets, magazines, art and slam poetry for our students to fully understand the plethora of culture that have contributed to the depths of the city over the years. We hope to present the information and material in a modern way in order to grab the attention of our students and keep them wanting to learn more. The unit is shying away from some traditional teaching methods and incorporating technology and whatever resources are at our fingertips. Essentially, our goal is to teach multiple aspects of Chicago with innovative techniques and styles. Please, feel free to explore!
